These databases are the result of long-term monitoring
begun in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the North Inlet Estuary,
Georgetown County, South Carolina. The National Science Foundation
funded the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program in the North
Inlet Estuary from 1981 to June, 1993. Each core database and
its variables are listed below.
- nitrogen (total whole, total filtered, particulate,
ammonia, nitrate-nitrite)
- phosphorus (total whole, total filtered, particulate,
orthophosphate)
- organic carbon (total, dissolved, particulate)
- total suspended sediment
- inorganic suspended sediment
- organic suspended sediment
- chlorophyll a, phaeophytin
Water quality parameters measured at the same time the
water sample was taken.
- salinity
- tide elevation
- water temperature
- secchi
Ancillary data & images
- Sediment (water) color

- air temperature
- wind direction and speed
- maximum hourly wind speed
- barometric pressure
- solar radiation (Licor sensor: in microEinsteins/m2/s)
- solar radiation (Eppley sensor in Langleys/minute
measuring 280-2800 nm wavelengths)
Water quality parameters measured at the same time:
- water temperature
- water conductivity
- water level
