Columbia Campus are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Business hours at the Baruch Marine Field
Laboratory (BMFL) are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Arrangements can be made to access the facility and nearby
sites by contacting the appropriate staff via one of the
methods indicated below.

The Columbia Office of the Belle W. Baruch Institute for
Marine and Coastal Sciences is on the 6th floor
(Room 607 EWS) in the Earth & Water Sciences Center (Map
Number 89) which is located between the Coker Life
Sciences Building (Map Number 100, Sumter Street) and
the Jones Physical Science Center (Map Number 90, South
Main Street).
For driving directions to the Columbia
Office please click
this link which will take you to
mapquest.com. Scroll to the bottom of the
page and enter your starting address in the, "Get
Directions to Above Location from:" field.
Once you arrive in Columbia enter into
the Coker Life Sciences Building on Sumter Street or the
Jones Physical Science Center on South Main Street and
proceed to the 6th floor. Follow the signs to the
Earth & Water Sciences Building, Room 607. If you

(Myrtle Beach)

Follow Highway 17 South
(Bypass 17 is recommended).
About seven miles south of the South Causeway traffic
light in Pawley's Island, begin looking for DeBordieu
Colony on the left. After passing the DeBordieu
turnoff, the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory turn off is
approximately 1.0 mile on the left. Look for the "Hobcaw
Barony" sign. The Baruch Marine Field Laboratory is
located on Hobcaw Barony. |
From the North
(Conway) |
Follow Highway 701 South
Once in Georgetown, go to the 17N intersection and
follow signs to the beaches. This will be a left hand
turn.As you leave Georgetown you will cross two rivers.
After crossing the second bridge (Waccamaw River
& Atlantic Intracoastal Water Way), watch for the
entrance to Hobcaw Barony approximately one mile on the
right. The Baruch Marine Field Laboratory is
located on Hobcaw Barony.

From the South
(Charleston)
|
Follow Highway 17 North
Once in Georgetown, you will pass over the Sampit
River Bridge and go through three traffic lights
(not including flashing light). At the 4th light, STAY IN THE RIGHT-HAND
LANE AND FOLLOW SIGNS TO THE BEACHES -- 17 NORTH WILL
VEER TO THE RIGHT. As you leave Georgetown you
will cross two rivers. After crossing the second
bridge (Waccamaw River
& Atlantic Intracoastal Water Way), watch for the
entrance to Hobcaw Barony approximately one mile on the
right. The Baruch Marine Field Laboratory is
located on Hobcaw Barony.

From the West
|
Follow Highway 521 East
Take 521
into Goergetown. Approx. 4 miles inside the city limits
turn slight left onto Church Street /
US-17 ALT and follow signs to the Beaches; Church St
becomes US-17N. As you leave Georgetown you will
cross two rivers. After crossing the second bridge
(crosses Waccamaw River part of Atlantic Intracoastal
Water Way), watch for the entrance to Hobcaw Barony
approximately one mile on the right. The Baruch
Marine Field Laboratory is located on Hobcaw Barony.

Once
turning into the Hobcaw Barony Parking Area from
Highway 17 |
....you have two choices. Turn right
through the parking lot to go to the Kimbel Center,
Dorms, and Cottages or proceed to the
lift gate arm to
access the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory.

At
the Hobcaw Property Lift Gate to Access the USC
Baruch Marine Field Laboratory |
Pull up to the
electric gate, dial "010" on the
gate phone to reach the lab. If you have
not been to the lab before, see directions given in next
paragraph. The gate phone is on a
timer and after 30 seconds, it will cut off. Dial
again if necessary.
Proceed through the gate and stay on the main road,
Hobcaw Road.
You will pass the Clemson Baruch Coastal Ecology
Laboratory on the left. Continue on Hobcaw Road 0.2
miles until you come to a three way intersection at which point you will veer left on Crabhaul Road.
Drive approximately 2.2 miles until you reach the lab.
Please drive slow and be careful with oncoming traffic,
the road is narrow and the shoulders are soft and
swampy. There are only a few safe places to pull off Crabhaul
Road.

Please park in the lot on your left as
you approach the Field Laboratory complex.
