Hi!
Welcome to the Wetland Biogeochemistry Lab at the University of South Carolina’s Baruch Marine Field Laboratory.

Assorted wetlands photosWe study the biogeochemical cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and iron within ecosystems, the exchanges of these materials across boundaries (e.g. sediment-water and root-sediment), and the responses of ecosystems to natural and anthropogenic changes (e.g. sea level rise and watershed development). These interests specifically include microbial ecology since the biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nitrogen, and iron are, in large part, mediated by microbes.

Research in the lab is centered on biogeochemistry and microbial ecology in coastal wetlands but many of the processes that we study are system-independent.
